This report describes the physical properties, construction and testing of SMC 1500 series pulleys, and our maintenance recommendations. Applicable standards are also covered.
ALTHOUGH A PULLEY IS NOT, IN ITSELF, INHERENTLY DANGEROUS, AS SOON AS IT IS PUT INTO USE, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH CAN RESULT FROM MISUSE OF ANY PART OF THE ROPE AND PULLEY SYSTEM IN WHICH IT IS INSTALLED, OR MISUSE OF ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT TO WHICH THIS SYSTEM IS CONNECTED. FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH AND SAFETY, ALL USERS OF SMC RESCUE PRODUCTS SHOULD OBTAIN PERSONAL INSTRUCTION FROM A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR IN ALL PHASES OF THEIR USE. WHAT FOLLOWS IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE PURPOSES ONLY, AND IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROPER INSTRUCTION.
SMC 1500 series pulleys are designed for reliable performance under the less-than-ideal conditions found in rescue situations, yet they are moderately priced. They are rugged but relatively light in weight, having stainless steel side plates, aluminum sheaves and plated steel axles.
The sizes produced include pulleys with 2-inch, 3-inch and 4-inch sheave diameters. The 2-inch size will accept rope up to 1/2-inch diameter, while the 3-inch and 4-inch sizes will accept rope up to 5/8-inch diameter. Each model is available with oilite bronze bushings and, on two sizes, sealed ball bearings are also available. In addition to single wheel models, the 2" and 4" diameters are available in double wheel models with a stainless steel center plate and becket. See the table at the end of this report for complete details on size, weight and bearing configurations.
For the corrosive conditions found in some rescue environments, or in certain industrial applications, our four-inch size ball bearing pulley is also available with an anodized coating on its aluminum sheave, stainless steel jam nuts and a stainless steel axle. Its model number is 152505.
